The Northumberland, Tyne and Wear Health Branch was formed from the merger of two former branches (North of Tyne Health and The Northgate and Prudhoe Health Branches) together with part of the Wearside Health Branch in 2006.
This Branch is now one of the largest health branches in the northern region with over 5500 members. These members are drawn form amongst the following employers.
The Northumberland, Tyne & Wear NHS Health Trust, University of Northumbrian, The North East Strategic Health Authority and a number of care providers in the private sector.
The branch covers an area from Berwick in the north to Sunderland in the south and out to the Tyne Valley in the west. The Branches main offices are located at Northgate Hospital and St George’s Park in Morpeth, St Nicholas Hospital in Gosforth and Monkwearmouth Hospital in Sunderland.
The branch through its lay stewards and branch officers offers advice on a number of areas related to members’ employment included disciplinary, grievance and representation for sickness absence matters, also members can receive free legal advice on a number of issues through the union’s solicitors Thompsons.
